Iles de la Madeleine

10 Nights/11 Days

Micmac Indians poetically named the archipelago "Menagoesenog", a word that means "islands brushed by the waves". For anyone arriving on the Iles de la Madeleine, the effect is an immediate and total change in scenery. As far as the eye can see, the islands and the dunes seem to blend, break apart, and then stretch out from view, as though deposited there by the whims of the sea.

The archipelago of Iles de la Madeleine is located in the middle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and comprises about a dozen islands, six of which are interconnected by long, thin, sand dunes. The Islands are in the shape of a half moon stretching across a distance of 65 km.

Come and explore a land of cliffs, beaches, dunes and lagoons!

Day 1 Arrive in Toronto

Stay at a downtown hotel.

Day 2 Toronto to Montreal.

This morning we board the motor coach and drive through Eastern Ontario to Montreal.  We check into the downtown hotel for overnight.

Day 3 Cruising the St. Lawrence River.

This morning we board the M.V. Madeleine and check into our onboard cabins. This ship is a former Norwegian Ferry that has been refurbished by C.T.M.A. While the cabins are small, each guest will be booked in an outside cabin with full washroom facilities. All cabins offer a shower only. The ship will set sail around noon, making an evening stop in Quebec City. This will be a great opportunity for pictures of the lighted city and its skyline. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 4

While cruising the St. Lawrence River all of your meals are included onboard the ship. You will also find an onboard library, a quiet lounge, cafeteria and plenty of forward facing seating for the best attraction - sightseeing, while cruising the St. Lawrence River. Today the ship will be in the Tadoussac region, located at the mouth of the Saguenay River, a great place for Whale Watching! (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 5 Iles de la Madeleine.

You can watch the ship dock at Cap-aux-Meules, around noon today. Comprised of about twelve islands, Iles de la Madeline is located in the middle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, but is actually only 65 km in total length. Here you will find amazing sand dunes and terrific landscapes, that will keep your camera busy. You will also discover a unique culture, that has developed from its Acadian origins. Before the days of modern navigation, this part of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, saw a lot of shipwrecks. This afternoon a Glass Bottom Boat Cruise, will show us some of those wrecks and discuss the reasons for many ship wrecks located in the area. During our time in port, we will be accommodated at one of the island's beautiful hotels. (Breakfast)

Day 6 Iles de la Madeleine.

Today we have arranged a guided tour to western islands of Ile du Cap aux Meules and Ile du Havre Aubert. This will help orient you to all of the restaurants and shops that are within an easy walk of the Ship's dock and provide a unique first look at the culture of Iles de la Madeline. Lunch is included as part of the day tour. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 7 Cruising the St. Lawrence River.

The scheduled day tour today, will take us to the eastern islands, passing many terrific Sand Dunes along the way. We will tour Lighthouses, the Salt Mine Interpretative centre, the Herring Smoke House Museum and more. Be sure to have your camera at the ready as we will view some dramatic Sand Stone cliffs, that make for terrific pictures. This evening, the ship will set sail from Cap-aux-Meules as we bid farewell to Iles de la Madeleine. (Breakfast, Lunch)
