Canada's Capital Cities plus Niagara Falls - 10 Days

Finding the time to take a vacation seems to keep getting harder to do. This puts a lot of pressure on choosing the right journey, one that makes you feel like you made the most of your holiday. This eastern Canada and Niagara Falls vacation does just that, with visits to four cities with distinctly diverse cultural backgrounds. Enjoy the vibrant city life that’s found in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, and Toronto during stays at premier Fairmont Hotels & Resorts properties.

For a change of pace, escape to the great outdoors to cruise along the St. Lawrence River and enjoy a close-up look at Niagara Falls. In between, discover the colonial history of Eastern Canada and the French and British influences that make you feel like you have made a detour to Europe for a moment or two – particularly in old Quebec City, celebrating its 400th anniversary in 2008.

Day 1 - Arrive Montreal

Tour begins: 6:30 p.m. at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth. Welcome to Montreal, the second largest French city in the world after Paris and the jumping-off point for your eastern Canada and Niagara Falls vacation. Attend a reception and dinner tonight to meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers.
Meals: Dinner
Lodging: Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, Montreal, PQ

Day 2 - Cultural Montreal

With its dual English and French cultures, Montreal is one of Canada’s most unique cities. A morning sightseeing tour includes St. Joseph’s Oratory, McGill University and Mont-Royal, plus a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch
Lodging: Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, Montreal, PQ

Day 3 - Montmorency Falls and French Quebec

Leave Montreal and travel through the heart of French Canada to magnificent Montmorency Falls; at 272 ft., they are higher than Niagara Falls. Enjoy lunch beside the falls before visiting the Shrine of Ste. Anne de Beaupré, then continuing on to the heart of French Canada, Quebec City. Sprawled atop sheer cliffs rising above the narrowing St. Lawrence River, Quebec City reflects an old-world charm and grace of another era.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Lodging: Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Quebec City, PQ

Day 4 - Explore Quebec City in its 400th year

Today, your eastern Canada and Niagara Falls vacation takes you on a sightseeing tour of the walled city of Old Quebec, capital of the province; this old-world city is celebrating its 400th birthday throughout 2008. The ancient stone houses huddled beside venerable churches and monuments evoke memories of a typical city of 18th-century Europe; spend the rest of the day exploring at leisure.
Meals: Breakfast
Lodging: Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Quebec City, PQ

Day 5 – Explorer’s route to Ottawa

Travel a route used by early French explorers and fur traders, to Canada’s capital city of Ottawa, perched on the banks of the Ottawa River. See Ottawa’s magnificent boulevards and tree-lined streets, beautiful flower gardens, and the regal architecture of its stately government buildings.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch
Lodging: Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa, ON

Day 6 - Sightsee Ottawa

The morning’s sightseeing in resplendent Ottawa includes views of the Royal Canadian Mint, National Research Center, City Hall, the residence of the prime minister, and Rideau Hall, the governor-general’s home, with an opportunity to visit Parliament. Weather permitting, it is possible to see the Changing of the Guard in July and August. The rest of the day is free to spend as you wish in Canada's capital city.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Lodging: Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa, ON

Day 7 - Cruise the Thousand Islands

As your eastern Canada and Niagara Falls vacation continues, head south to the St. Lawrence River for lunch and a cruise among the lovely Thousand Islands, home to both simple summer homes and opulent mansions. Arrive in Toronto, Ontario’s largest city, for the next three nights. Multi-cultural Toronto is a dynamic city with a wide variety of ethnic neighborhood villages, a vibrant waterfront, and myriad cultural attractions.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Lodging: The Fairmont Royal York, Toronto, ON

Day 8 - Sightsee Toronto

Explore Toronto on a sightseeing tour that includes the downtown and residential areas as well as the grand Parliament Buildings and the University of Toronto. Visit one of the city’s most visible icons, the CN Tower, which is the tallest freestanding structure in the world. The rest of the day is free for you to pursue your special interests from your hotel in the heart of this vibrant city.
Meals: Breakfast
Lodging: The Fairmont Royal York, Toronto, ON

Day 9 - Amazing Niagara Falls

Depart Toronto on your eastern Canada and Niagara Falls vacation and head for Niagara, home of the falls today. View this natural wonder from high above, then descend to the churning waters of the Niagara River and board the famous Maid of the Mist for a cruise and close-up encounter with thundering Niagara Falls. Pass such world-famous sights as Table Rock, the Floral Clock and Whirlpool Rapids on a drive along Niagara Gorge; visit lovely Niagara-on-the-Lake for lunch, with time to explore at leisure. Join us this evening for a farewell reception and dinner.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Lodging: The Fairmont Royal York, Toronto, ON
