Museums in Québec
Québec is
home to some of the earliest outposts and settlements in North America,
and the Québecois culture is every bit as vibrant and distinct as it
way centuries ago. No surprise, then, that Québec's museums and
galleries are popular destinations for visitors from around the world.
Museums in
Québec in Gatineau (just across the river from the nation's capital,
Ottawa), traces 1,000 years of settlement in Canada, and also houses a
stunning IMAX/Omnimax theatre in an impressively-designed building that
pays homage to Canada's First Nations People.
The Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, which is over 140 years old, was Canada's first art
museum, and its collection of everything from paintings to furniture is
not to be missed.
Close by,
the Canadian Centre for Architecture
focuses on the evolution of cityscapes and the manmade environment;
don't miss its stunning sculpture garden. And in towns and cities
across the province, you will discover the history and de of regional
arts and crafts, from stained glass to bookbinding to whiskey making.
Let your
feet take you where they will; no matter where you go, it will be a
voyage of discovery.

Meet
the people who made history: Natives who lived on the site for
thousands of years, passionate Jesuit missionaries and ambitious
19th-century lumber barons. Housed in one of the province's oldest
homes, the exhibitions highlight both local and regional history and
heritage. The site includes a Native encampment, archaeological
remnants and a beautiful 18th-century home once inhabited by Frances
Brooke, author of the first Canadian novel. A tour of the garden leads
to a verdant wooded oasis: discover a Native kitchen garden, vegetables
and medicinal plants, flower beds, berries and an abundance of
indigenous flora.
